Need Help-----how to preserve transparency?
Dec 21st, 2008, 3:53am

I just received an assignment-------------Names of Jesus:  I could sure use some help.
what it consist of is hand written names if Jesus in different colors------with a large Calligraphic colored word 'JESUS' over the hand written names so they show through.  How does one go about getting a fully transparent word, full strenght color like a piece of colored glass, not a faded translucent look.  it will be a four color cymk reproduction from my jpeg.  I could sure use some help from you experienced computer artist that have had printing experience on how to achieve this look.  thank You Norval

and you other freelancers know---------due yesterday Grin Grin Grin

If you use a free download like http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
Then you can write the names on one layer.
Then on a separate layer write the big "jesus"
Select the second layer and reduce the transparency so that the other names show through.
(Click layer, then layer properties then drag the pointer until it looks right to you)
merge the layers
there is a forum to help you with special effects. Grin
Save the picture as a gif this saves the transparencies
Then save a copy of the gif as a jpeg for posting here - the transparency will remain as it is just a picture of the completed flat gif.

Wendy Thanks so much.  I will be working on it this weekend.    I remember the days when you got six weeks to do a job.  Now you're lucky to get three or four days.  Got it this morning and the work has to be eMailed in to the art director Tuesday.  I don't know how all you kids freelancing stand up under the pressure. Shocked            the era of computers!!!

You can do it the same in photoshop 5 as in paint.net if it (PS5) has layer capability.

Simply reduce the opacity in the layer style pallette of the layer with the word you want transparent.

I can't remember if I posted a tutorial for this type of work yet, but my tutorials blog is here. Most were done in Photoshop (versions CS to CS3) so I'm not sure how many of them would fully work in 5. They all contain screenshots of the work in progress though, so you should be able to see what is happening and translate that to PS5 tools. Nearly all are downloadable pdf files.

Jan, a question on another subject.  I asked Eugenia this in the middle of the night [ Smileywhen I have problems I ask Eugenia, shes in Australia working normal [daytime] hours and I'm working nights here ] but she couldn't figure out what was happening and also have a post on blogspot asking the same question.
The problem is: I have always used explorer as my browser, I changed to firefox yesterday-----my blog has gone bonggers-------the header, the part I copied the html from photobucket is just fine, the part, 'The Title and Border' that were composed in the gadget bar on blogspot did not expand with the other part of the header.
The other probem is the 'greeting card widgets, the zazzle panels,----the images disappeared but the title or link text is still there.
Over all the whole thing seems to have expanded, no border on the sides at all?
'Still is normal when viewed on explorer, also Eugenia brought it to my attention that the link I gave her didn't work, I tryed it on firefox and it dosen't work, but on explorer it does?  The link is http://www.artworkbynorval2.blogspot.com  still has to be typed in the address bar on explorer though.
If you want to take a look.  the easiest way is to use the link in the profile module of my gcu 'luv apples cardshop' store front.  I would sure like to keep using firefox, the speed and image quality are so much better than explorers.             Norval

I'm glad I helped even if it was in a 'round about way.
Shame you couldn't get the paint.net download.
I use it all the time
So long as you can do the gifs and jpegs you'll be OK.
I love my Windows XP
My husband has updated to Windows Vista and he has had nothing but trouble with it
I'm not updating for anyone!!!

I guesss you're the same
once you're happy with a system you just don't wanna change. Grin
Good luck with the assignment

I can access your blog using the link in your post just fine. I am using an up-to-date version of firefox as well.

This is what I see with your header:

You'll notice that your code is showing there - I'm not sure why.

I use the standard header on blogger and fit my image to it rather than attempting to change it, so I can't really help you there. The best I can suggest is that you resize the header image to fit within the current border.

All of your widgets appear just fine in my browser.

I think you might need to adjust your settings in firefox to see the widgets. You will need to enable scripts to see the widgets. If your concerned about enabling scripts there is an add-on for firefox called "No Script" - install that from the mozilla site. It lets you decide what sites you allow scripts for so you can set it to allow it for trusted sites.

Um, the gif format is generally okay for web use, but if the image needs to be printed you would be better off with the png format. You didn't really say what the use of the Jesus image would be for but I gather it will be printed - you should check your colours before you send it off for print to be sure they'll reproduce as required.

Jan, you're seeing just what I'm seeing in firefox except no image in the widget.      on explorer the border goes completely around header.  I will ask my son where the firefox settingsare, he changed it over for me.

There are images in your widgets - I must have hit the snapshot just between - the widges (mine do too) have a slight lag between each card where this just white space for maybe 3/4 of a second.

When I looked again at your blog I can see the cards rotating through the GCU widgets. The placement is odd for the third sidebar widget though - the first two seem left justified, and the third seemes right.

There is a further widget from GCU at the bottom of the post which appears either in the post, or in the footer (can't tell how you've got the blog set up).

Further down are nine zazzle widgets, all with the galleries rotating through.

Jan, I just looked at the blog still no widget images showing with foxfire------pulled it up on explorer every thing is lined up where it was, alignment is a little off now, but not the way it is on foxfire,  Linda's widget is up underneath the other widgets where it is supposed to be.
I pulled up mozilla but didn't know how to change settings, or even what kind of settings???
Sorry getting back to the forum so late, trying to thaw out frozen pipes [no water] the city shut the water off last night because of a leak and didn't inform anyone.  no water pressure----frozen water lines!!!
Wind chill -10% here.

Boy, I'm sorry about the pipes - that's a nasty business. I hope they don't burst on you. We've been through that. I hope everything turnsout okay.

As for the firefox...I remember having issues with my own website when I first started using it. I had some javascripts (the entire menu) that firefox wouldn't load at all, and some flash files that it wouldn't play. I got very frustrated trying to make my website work in firefox. In the end I installed No Script and java quick starter as well as the shockwave flash plugin before my site would work right again.

The default for firefox is to avoid scripts period, so have a look in the Tools, Options, Content tab and see if java and javascripts are enabled there.

Go to "Tools" in the menu bar of firefox, then select "options" and click on the "Main" tab when the box opens. At the bottom of the box is "Add-on" with a button to manage your add-ons. Click that and see if you have any of those things installed already - the java quick starter and no script will be under the "extensions" tab in the add-ons box, and the flash plugin will be under "plug-ins". If any of those are installed there'll be a button to enable or disable them. If they are disabled, select enable. If they aren't there at all you might (try checking the javascript and java options mentioned abive first) need to install them from the mozilla site. At the top of the add-ons tox is a tab that says "get add-ons" - click that and do a search for those 3 I mentioned.

I'm not sure why the display is off in my firefox though - I put almost all of my flash and scripts in the sidebar of my own blogger sites and don't seem to have that problem.  I had a look at the source code and I am wondering if it might be the code for the IE fix for that's inserted above the sidebar wrapper in your CSS. Anytime I try to fix any blog (even my wordpress) to display correctly in IE it messes up the way it displays in firefox. Your code also has a skip links for text browser in the CSS, and if you don't have firefox set to display images automatically it might have an effect. In the content tab of firefox (same place the javascript option was) make sure "load images automatically" is selected.

I'm running back and forth to the kitchen trying to get the christmas baking done, so I'm not too quick getting back here either  Smiley

Oh, by the way, it's Gracey (Jan is my first name but I go by Gracey).
