Hi Tom,
That is an interesting change you are talking about...I think it would be an improvement, but again I just don't like the idea and here is why... What if a bride had purchased 200 wedding invitations or a business 200 apologies, etc.?  We are looking at it from a perspective of we need more customers and want more sales, but I think customers might not like this if they are buying in bulk or for a very special occasion like weddings or for business use.  A business who wants to apologize for example to a customer wouldn't want the customer to think they got the card for free!  I just don't feel like a promo directly on the product is the right way to go.  Again, I don't want to sound negative, but I am afraid this might actually discourage existing customers.

A good point indeed!

I agree with Kathy's view that a promotion directly on the card could be inappropriate and/or cheapen the level of the product (Nasser did tell us that a customer asked for a refund because she didn't feel she could send the cards she had ordered to her bridal party due to the promo). Now, what if the code were indeed posted on the site itself for new customers (buy one/get one free)? And, perhaps any other sort of promotion could be mailed as a separate coupon in an order or sent by e-mail. I do think it's best to separate the promotion from the actual printed cards themselves, as Kathy stated earlier.

Greetings (cards),
Joan

Hi Tom,

I may be asking the wrong person, but I just joined the GCU (digitalmidge) and my page keeps telling me I have 1 free card credits, so how do I retrieve or use that credit?  I wanted to order one of my own cards, is there a special code I have to use for my 1 free card (I guess we get one for joining?.

Thank you,

Zoe (digitalmidge)

Zoe, when you are logged in, choose a card and put it in your shopping basket, at checkout you'll be asked if you want to use your card credit.

This is exactly how a customer of mine felt with the exception of the bride/wedding part.  It just is not a good place for it.

Also, the post about a seperate coupon... being sent was blasted down by gcu already.

Thanks ...rattle rattle,

Best case I'd like the back-of-card promo discontinued-I really don't like such a hard sell. It's not very classy, especially on sympathy, missing you, engagement, wedding, and other similar types of cards. As an alternative, could we "click a box" and choose not to have the promo appear on our cards?

I agree with several here who have suggested that the promo would be better on the site. Maybe there could be a certain place as shoppers enter GCU where they would learn to look for "Special Offers" that are buying incentives.

Hi all,
Just received a card that I ordered today.  This card, order#74493, did not have the "Free card promo for first time users on the back".

Thank you for all your feedback.   After listening to our artists and customers, we've decided to end the free card promo for the back of the cards.   The return on the promotion is not worth all the negative feedback.

In its place we now show a seal for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), as our printing partner now meets their standards.    "FSC sets forth principles, criteria, and standards that span economic, social, and environmental concerns. They certify every company that touches the product and ensure they are keeping to the highest environmental standards, including the companies that plant the trees to the printer and everyone in between".

Here is a sample for the back for all cards printed starting January 10th:

Cards created before Jan 10th will NOT display the new logo “online”, but will include the logo in the printed product.

Thanks again,
Nasser

I am glad to see you are open to suggestions and comments.

I am sorry to say the back just looks too busy, too much going on, too commercial.  The logos are too large and still look like commercial advertising.  I guess all those years watching NASCAR and seeing the cars with all the sponsor stickers on it has colored my view.  that's all from me  lips sealed

I am glad that the free card promo is no longer on the back of the cards. I was worried about any sympathy, missing you, cards going out with that bit of business on the back.

Thanks for taking it off.

Here is a link to the FSC website for those interested:
http://fsc.org

Would the FSC allow a more streamlined application of their logo, one with not so many words, and perhaps better words?  Also, having the Cert # and Copyright info just makes it rather busy too, and not really required imo.

And, since we're on the subject, frankly, don't you think the back of our cards are a bit amateurish this way?  There's a mix of 3 Block of info with no consistency in font, font size, color, style, .....

And just look at that Artist pic in the example card (Henrys), which is typical.  The Artist is a guy with his shirt off sitting in a room with a sheet on the back wall, and the photo looks like it came from a webcam.  If we want to connect Artists with Shoppers, we should insist on only good studio quality artist photos or equivalent Artist depiction drawings, such as this one here T. Masinter:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/auntieparticlesgreetings

I'm sure an artist like T. Masinter of Auntie Particles, would be willing to draw flattering Artist Profile images, like her own, for use on the BOC credits for a small fee paid by the Artist if the Artist can't supply a good studio quality photo.  Drawings and photos would need to be consistent and would need to be  approved.

I think we really do need a more complete overall artistic and consistent approach to this card surface, matching that of best commecial cards.  This is very important going forward if we want to capture more bulk orders, particularly for wedding and business customers, imo.

How can we help?

TOM

I, too, would prefer a much more streamlined approach to BOC credits. The FSC logo, in particular, is very invasive as it stands. On a birthday card, perhaps it's marginally acceptable. However, if I were a bride, or a hostess ordering invitations, or a business person seeking a line of cards to reflect my company, I would not like to see all that on cards my guests/customers would be receiving.

May I suggest a compromise?

How about this: what if we eliminated the artist's pic/store name, etc., from the back of the card. It isn't necessary. Beneath the GCU logo (which I'd like to see simplified if possible, or at least made more discreet), include the artist's store URL beneath the home page URL. That would give all relevant information without cluttering up the back of the card, and giving an unprofessional appearance.

Discuss?

I would prefer to make the new FSC logo much smaller and less bulky looking. Also, I don't understand why you keep putting logos in the upper corners. They look...terrible.

I would not mind Corrie's suggestion of having the card store link below the GCU logo, however, I would like to retain the name of my card shop there as well.

Below that, a very small version of the FSC logo.

Your printer does a pretty decent job of providing professionally printed cards that look great, but adding all this extra stuff all over the back of the card just reduces the professionalism.

Why can't we have something that looks more like this:

Hi All,
First, I would like to say that I am glad that the back of card promotion has been eliminated.  I think this is a step in the right direction and I thank GCU for listening to our concerns.
Second, I too believe the Back of the Card is way too busy and looks unprofessional.  I am glad the printer is FSC, but I don't know that this information should be on the back of the card.  I feel like Corrie let's streamline the back.  How about putting all the information in black near the bottom of the card and center it?
Here is an example of what I think might suffice.  Obviously, the last line is the url to the store of who the purchase was made from.

It is simple, has the information we need the customer to have and is not overly cluttered.
Just my thoughts.  Again, thanks for listening.
