Note cards or Not
Oct 20th, 2008, 3:35am

Do you feel that a blank card (Note Card) would sell faster or a card with a saying?
I have a hard time coming up with sayings.
Thanks for your help

Hi Arlene;
I'm relatively new here and haven't sold a lot of cards, but my experience has been that my cards with sayings sell better.
Beautiful cards, by the way! Keep up the good work.

Hi Arlene, If you find out I'd love to know too . . . the words are much harder than the artwork for me too. I think in general though, the advice I have had so far here at gcu is to use wording for occasions or persons, it seems that if people are looking for a card for dads birthday, they seem to want it written on the front, plus a little something inside. I try to keep any wording simple, 'To a loving husband' for example on the front.

So I do my best, and make sure in the artists comments bit I let people know the wording inside can be altered by them, and if they wish, I can remove or alter the wording on the front.
Les.

Tracey,  thank you for the kind words it is very encouraging to me.  I look at other cards and wonder if anyone other than myself will want to purchase them. LOL   Thank you for the tip, I will be working on sayings.  Do you know if we can use quotes on the inside if we give the reference?  example Shakespeare, etc.
Thanks a bunch,
Arlene

When I first started with GCU, I made a blank version along with two for specific occasions with a simple verse inside.  90 percent of my sales are for cards with verses inside.   Because, I personally, like blank cards I had expected them to sell better, but it seems the majority of the buyers out there want some words on the inside.  You had asked about quotes in another area of the forum.  I will sometimes use a quote from a classic such as Shakespeare or Browning.  I use quote marks and end with the author's name.   I stay completely away from any modern writing unless I have received permission to use it.   Many of my cards have very simple words such as "Hope you have a great birthday!"   Even this seems to satisfy some buyers.   Hope this helps.

Mindy has posted lots of information about categories, profiles, what sells etc on the forums - It is worth taking the time to look for her posts

quote from Mindy

"As for Blank Cards popularity which is similar to Note Cards sub-category, it is a valid shopping category however your best traffic for shoppers will be for a specific occasion card since they're on a mission to buy.  Also blank cards will not be suggested in our email reminders - reminders are for the biggies like birthdays, holidays, anniversaries.

You can use the same image to make multiple cards - 1 blank and 1 with an occasion specific inside text."

Thanks Eugenia, I'll take a look around. Also the 'mission to buy' thing is interesting - I know I should have, but I never thought of it that way. Makes sense.

I think "blank cards" might sell better under a different name, like "all occasion," but so far suggestions for such a change have gone unnoticed.  Good luck !

Hi Everyone, I am pretty new here and have been reading the which sells better, blank or verse inside with interest as I have many blank cards and also prefer them for personal use. Anyway, since many of us have a hard time coming up with things to put inside I thought that the customers are no different. What if GCU had somewhere where the customer could look for some inspiring or standard messages to go inside a blank card. A sort of, Don't know what to write inside? - look here for ideas. Even better if on the personalize your card page there were some popular options that could be selected, eg, a birthday message, a happy anniversary message, a get well soon message, and voila they appeared inside the card!
This is not thought through, just throwing out things as they pop into my head. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I agree. In the mean time one could offer such a thing one's own page.  Either set up some sayings in the bulletin, with a message in the top of the page directing people to look there. OR set up a separate web page of some standard verse/text.

I enjoy creating verse and would love to be able to create 4-8 different ones for a card and allow the customer to choose between them.

I would also cheerfully contribute to a community verse bank if there was an incentive to do so.

Well ... you have to keep in mind the entire system here is set up specifically to market cards with specific texts for specific occasions.
