Changes to the Arrange Gallery tool
Jul 14th, 2008, 6:40pm

Hello Everyone,

We have redesigned the Arrange Gallery tool so that it loads/operates much faster.  In addition to the drag and drop method of moving your cards around, we've also added the following new features:

Two methods to view your cards:
1. Gallery View:
Displays 3 columns of cards similar to your storefront,  and 15 cards per page

2. Large View (the name may change  Smiley):
Displays 100 cards per page.  Note that this view contains 5 columns while your store front contains 3.  The 4th card in the 1st row will actually be the 1st card in the 2nd row of your store front and so on.

Position Editing:
You can now move cards around by specifying their position.  So if you have a card on page 12 that you want to move to the front of your store, locate that card and enter 1 in the Position box, and it will move the card to the very first spot on page 1 of your store, or enter 2 in the Position box to move it to the 2nd spot on the first page of your store, etc.

Advanced Positioning:
1. Keyword Positioning:
Move a group of cards to the front of your store by entering a keyword and specifying position 1.

For example, if you wanted to move all of your Christmas cards to the front of your store, enter Christmas as the keyword and enter 1 in the position box.  This will move any cards that are in the Christmas category and also cards that have Christmas in the keywords, title or inside verse to the front of your store.

2. Product ID Positioning:
Move a group of cards (or just 1 card) to the front of your store by entering the product id for each then specifying the position.

For example, if you wanted to move cards 10001, 10002 and 10003 to the front of your store you would enter 10001, 10002, 10003 in the Product ID box and enter 1 in the Position box.  This would move the 3 cards to the first 3 positions on the first page in your store.

Feel free to test it out and please let us know if you have any trouble.

Shaun

Cheesy Truly remarkable.  Thanks doesn't seem enough, but thanks anyway... I tried it out and it worked like a c-h-a-r-m!  Easy and quick.  I could kiss you  kiss, but my husband would be suspicious...  Have a great evening...

Shaun-

I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I sure trust that Gina knows what she's talking about (usually does).  This sounds like an awesome tool we've been looking for!!! Grin

Just tried it out, much easier, specially when you want to move a bulk of cards.

Thanks  Smiley

This is mighty dangerous tool, but thanks!

Of course, you know each time you do this you set yourself up for more requested changes! Grin

I'd like:

1.  An "undo" button (multiple reversals), as some keyword arrangements don't come out as intended.

2.  An Arrange by Newest/Oldest  (then we tweak from this arrangement before the final SAVE).

3.  An Arrange by Most Popular/Least Popular.  (then we would tweak from this arrangement before the final SAVE)

4.  An Arrange by Prime Category (Announcements, Birthday, Business, ...), then we tweak from there before the final SAVE.

You might place a "?" link on the Arrange Gallery page that explains the various arrangement methods.

Oh - and thanks for the SAVE button on the top of the page rather than just at the bottom! Smiley

Tell the programmers they've "done good."

Thanks for the feedback, we're glad to hear that this tool is working well for everyone!

Tom, I know the "?" icons are on the way, but I can't comment yet on the other requests, I'll pass those on to the programmers.

Here's an update based on this thread and other related ones:

Gallery organization has long been an issue.  cry  Ideally the tool we would like to have would give you the flexibility to move your cards into sub-galleries, or folders.  That was a big project and kept getting bumped down the to do list.   Many artists were quite adamant that this needed to be done asap.  We agree it is long overdue.  I think we've created a pretty good solution that will hold up for more than just the short term.

We have taken some of your suggestions and will see how we can incorporate them into this new tool if it is simple enough:
>> All view
>> link/view to card details beyond pid and title
>> Tom's suggested arrange by newest, parent category, most pop, etc.
>> Undo button

How should you organize your gallery?  Huh
However you like, although I don't think alpha makes much sense from a shoppers perspective.

Yes, by category is quite logical however as Tom has pointed out that's what the Search my Store by Category module is for.  Once a shopper in your store and clicks on a category, a subset of your gallery arrangement aka Artist's Choice view is used.  When a shopper clicks on a keyword or enters a keyword search the Artist's Choice view is no longer used as cards are displayed by relevancy to their search.  Shoppers also have the option to view your Product Gallery by the Newest or Most Popular views vs your Artist's Choice.

The point is that although arranging your gallery is important shoppers will move about your store via more than just paging through your Product Gallery which is what you want them to do, shop.

If you do want to arrange by Occasion, you should be able to use the Advanced Positioning by keyword with "Birthday" or "Christmas" or "Easter" to get a pretty good start and tame any outliers from there.  Has anyone tried this?

Thanks to all for your patience and input!  Cheesy

Hi Mindy -

Again, thanks for this new capability.  I mainly did one arrange, by one keyword (Grandparents), and 28 cards rushed to the "top."  Very slick! Smiley

To do a more complete arrange, I can think of one fast "coarse" method:

Select, let's say, 10 keywords.  Start with Kewyord #10 and do an arrange to Position 1, and a SAVE.  Repeat for Keyword #9, #8, #7 .... #1.  This will put 10 sets of cards arranged in the desired keyword order.

One idea is to order the 10 selected keywords by "Top Selling Categories" or by the Rank in the Traffic Analytics list.  By doing this once a month, you arrange the store by placing the most overall recently popular Holidays and occassions in the first few store pages, based on the time of year.  Obviously you don't include recently passed Holidays, but cards like graduation cards could be placed near the top in May, for instance.

Still don't understand why "most popular" should even be part of OUR OWN arrangement of store front.  (Relevance still favors "most popular" with the default) WE know what are OUR most popular cards, if we choose to feature those first, so be it, OUR choice.  They are already getting more attention than the others.  When we put new cards in our our store, we may want those NEW cards to "come to the top" in a category, though may not be able to limit those to just the few "featured" cards on our storefront.

Why shouldn't "artist's choice" be a selection once a category is selected without an automatic default to "most relevant" (ie: "most popular").  This may not be an issue with few cards in a store, but with many cards, why can't we arrange it so that those cards that aren't being seen GET SEEN.  Isn't that the point of us being able to have some control of at least being able to arrange our OWN stores.  Granted these are great improvements, but I still think there should be a way to bring those "bottom"  20,0000 of the 60,000 cards into the forefront so as to be SEEN.

Personally, I believe "top selling" (most popular) cards are always going to rise to the top in the general scheme of things on overall searches of the site.  I think we need to get away from this when we can CHOOSE how to arrange OUR stores.  Not such a big deal when one has less than 300 cards or has been here 6 mos. or less. Can't we use "artist's choice" once a sub category is selected?? Or at this point does it just revert to the most relevant (ie: most popular scheme?)

Sorry, but I believe as long as the "most popular" is a factor in ANY arrangement, the same cards are going to be favored in searches.  Not that these aren't great cards, but there are too many other great cards that are not being seen.  We as GCU artists often see these: through the forum with welcoming new artists, from our own searches and just plain "trolling.'  I would not be adverse to be able to "suggest" other artists cards that a shopper may be interested in if they like my cards.  For example if a shopper liked by style, but I didn't have "that particular" card they were looking for. If there were an option on our storefront something like:  "If you like this card, you may like: http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/newartistjane (example, not a real store) cards"
I believe with the great community we have going here, we can help other artists as well as help GCU.  It could just be a simple module addition to the store front.

On other POD sites, when I see an artist or style I like, I'll go an check out other folks on the site that have "favorited" or are a "fan of" that particular storefront. . . helps me refine a search.  GCU has SOOOOO many cards now, I really think that we as store-holders can help the refinement of searching.  Even though we have an option for GCUers to "favorite" cards, there is no option for a shopper to see that.

What do you think??  I'd be more than happy to promote my "fans" as I think they'd be willing to do the same.

I agree with you, Ernestine, that it would be so nice to be able  to specific which cards come to the top in a category.   Also, I would certainly be more than willing to jump in and give a plug to other great stores here on GCU.  This is such a great friendly community and I think that concept would do well here.
