ladies in red hats
Jun 24th, 2008, 1:31am

Hi everybody,
was wondering, when looking through all the different categories, what "ladies in red hats" means - not being an american. Shocked
Is is just a category that shows living beings (humans and animals) wearing red hats?
Does it refer to a saying - a quote - a poem - whatever........?
Or is it just because red hats look nice? Cool
Is it a trademark (redhats = linux?)?
thanks for replies.
Happy creating!
cheers, barbara

The Red Hat Society is a social organization for women over 50.  If over 50, you wear a red hat and pink clothing.  Women under 50 can also join, but they wear pink hats and purple clothing until they turn 50.  Apparently, it's not limited to the US .. according to wikipedia, it's in 30 countries.

I'm always looking for ways to hide my age, so I don't think I'll be donning a big red hat anytime soon!  But I have a friend who is a red hatter and they have a blast at their outings, all wearing their hats and purposely non-matching clothing to go with it.

Oh, you young kids!!   Cheesy You should live in the senior retirement style community that I do.   Red hats and purple dresses are the "in" thing!    The concept is taken from a poem by Jenny Joseph which includes the lines:

"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me."

Hi Liz,
thanks, had a look at the links you mentioned - I think it is rather a nice idea, the ladies in red seem to have a lot of fun!
purple and red was always a favorite combination of mine, I love the "indian" color mixes like orange, purple, red, pink, all hot colours. Don't think though  that I would wear those colours myself, now that I am older.
I used to wear those combinations when I was much younger!!!
It seems like a good idea to accept one's age gracefully; something I sometimes have difficulties with. Inside I feel like a teenager. Why is a middle-aged lady looking back at me in the mirror? Roll Eyes

Nice shop, by the way! I mean yours Cheesy
Have a nice day!
cheers, barbara

I am 68 and feel like a teen ager too, maybe our immortal souls do not age.  That makes sense to me.  Even when I look into the eyes of a newborn baby they seem so wise inside.  Maybe because their souls are mature.  Who knows, not me, I just like to think about things like that.

It seems to be quite a colorful community  Wink

Please note due to copyright and trademark limitations we have categorized this as a "hobby" vs association and refer to it as ladies in red hats vs their official Red Hat Society.
