Almost ready to announce to the world
Mar 9th, 2008, 4:08pm

Hi everyone:

I'm new here and have just set up my store.  It is small right now; however, will be growing soon.  I have ordered a sample of each card to make sure my contact information will definitely go behind the fold (something I read on another thread here).  Can't wait until we can add our logo and copyright information to the back.  Once I receive those cards and know I do not have to make any adjustments, I will send out a notice to my e-mail list, put it on my website (using the widget) at http://www.naomisstudio.com and my facebook profile.

I thought I would run it by all the wonderful resident artists here who have been doing it for a little while.  If you have any suggestions for my store front, or how to promote, I am all ears.  Smiley  Here is the storefront http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/naomis.

Wishing you peace and prosperity,
Naomi

Hi, Naomi.  Nice store!

I'm new too, and I noticed your comment about the contact information behind the fold.  Can you explain?

Thanks.

I feel like the Easter Bunny!  When I read that about your contact info. 'behind the fold'....my ears skinned back and up!  Honestly!  What is this?  Is it possible to have our contact info. on the card?  Perhaps on the backside of the card front?
What?...what?...what?  Inquiring Minds Want to Know!!!
Thanks,

Sue,

Go to http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1203005422/30 and scroll down to Dustin's first posting on that page. She explains her very clever idea.

I'm surprised you didn't know about this. You were involved in the initial discussion, started by Harry.

Thanks everyone for the comments on the cards.  I can't wait to see them.  My biggest thing will be to make sure the contact information is on the back of the fold.  I found this posting at http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1203005422/30 by Dustin.  If you scroll half way down the page, you will see it.  On page 5, near the bottom, there is a posting with an image of what the card looks like with the information on the back.

Of course, this is taking a chance that it will actually show up; however, Dustin said she ordered 13 of her cards and they all came out well.  I just need to make sure I am putting mine in the right place.  I put it close to the edge, about 1 or 2 pixels away from the edge.  Dustin's picture looks like it is right on the edge, so I was trying to account for the possibility the bleed was cut off the 1 or 2 pixels.  Though, I now see she says she put it right on the edge. I don't think my 1 or 2 pixels will hurt. We'll see.

Since I paint so large, the series of cards will take awhile to grow for my Emotions series; however, I hope to have at least one card a week of different designs, other than my paintings put up.  See if my cats will be willing to be subjects again.  LOL Smiley

Welcome, Naomi. Best of luck with your beautiful paintings!

Sue, in answer to your question, I was part of another thread where I shared my idea of using the part of the image that goes over the fold to put a copyright and my URL. You can look at my cards to see what I mean, or check out this link of a photo of my cards that Tom posted for me:

http://www.fearlessthinkers.com/GCU/dustin_fold.jpg

I am using a 6 pt. bold sans serif font set in all caps, and pushing it right to the edge of the image on the side that folds. I put it upside down when the card is landscape, so that it reads properly on the back. I pick a color for the font that coordinates with the image but has enough contrast to be read clearly.

Give it a try and order at least one card before you add it to all your cards!

I actually just looked at a couple of the cards, most were two pixels away; however, a couple were four or five pixels.  Fingers crossed they will still be far enough away from the fold.  If not, I will adjust and change the images in the store.  I think they should be okay, looking at the photo of Dustin's card images.  There certainly looks like there is enough give room.

All of this will be easier when GCU has the ability to allow us to put our information on the back.  I spoke with them last week and they did say it was a goal of a possibility in the works for later this year.

Hey, I just saw, someone bought one of my cat cards!  Wow!  Smiley

Hi Naomi,
Welcome to GCU & congratulations on your cat card sale! Hopefully you'll have many many more!

Thank you for bringing up the idea of putting the artist ©/url info on the part of the image that folds over. Sue I feel just like you - I nearly fell off my chair when I read Naomi's post.

Dustin you're brilliant for coming up with this elegant solution!
Tom thanks for posting the photo so that I can see the idea implemented.

Now it's back to the computer for me!

Hey guys,
Thanks a million for your responses.  You know my memory just isn't what it used to be....NOW  I remember this thread and Dustin's brilliant idea.  I had put it 'on the back burner.  I was anxious to get up a good supply of cards before messing with it, but it was something I definately wanted to try...THEN  I forgot...  C'est la vie...
Dustin, how in the world did you ever think of such a cleaver use of space?  Are you an inventor?  You should be.  Thank you so much for your unselfish sharing.  You're an angel...A very talented angel, at that.   Wink
Back to the drawing board...
By the way, I am finally feeling almost 100% after that viral thing.  Thanks Tom for your good wishes.   Roll Eyes
