Fundraising Idea
Feb 23rd, 2008, 8:36am

I have been toying with an idea for awhile and have decided to post it now.  I think we are all interested in generating more traffic and more sales.  I was thinking that GCU cards could be a great product sold for fundraisers.  Schools, churches, and many other organizations have fundraisers all the time.  I think cards would be great because this is something most people can actually use.  Imagine a church fundraiser around Christmas time!  Most organizations have websites.  I think the organizations could just use the seller widget on their website and then get 50 cents for every card sold during the fundraiser.  I think artists could get involved by marketing GCU to organizations as a fundraiser.  I also think that there would have to be something in it for the artist, if a group signed up for a fundraiser on GCU.  I think the artist should get a portion of the profit for getting them to sign up.  In this way, GCU, the artist community and the organization would all be winning and this is how we will all succeed.  One of the things that might make it a bit harder to implement is the fact that some organizations would not want to see some cards that were not family rated.  Maybe there could be a way for an organization to choose what they see.  Anyway, I have a lot more thoughts on this, but just wanted to get the basic idea out there for discussion.  What do ya'll think about this as a possibility?

I think it's a very good idea. I was considering something similar for our school fund raising where the children could submit paintings (Xmas cards perhaps), parents could order the cards, the profit being kept for the school.
You have been thinking it through in more depth, and I really think it's worth looking into.

I too have been thinking this very same thing, every since I first joined in January!
My daughters and my brother, all are teachers.  Two teach the grades and two teach high school.  They are always involved in fund raisers.  I think the Christmas cards could easily be assembeld into a general Christmas packet and then the assorted box of  Birthday, Get Well, Sympathy, Wedding Congratulations, and Hello (or thinking of you) cards.  I'm not sure of what the bulk purchase prices are here, but perhaps that would be enough to make the card kits profitable for the fundraisers?  If so, we would just need the capability of putting together our FUND RAISING PACKETS, and of course we would need a way to bill them as such.
I sure would like to see this happen by next fall.
Anyone else?
Thanks,
SueB

Hi Fiona and Sue,
Glad to hear ya'll like the idea of a fundraiser.  Can't wait to  hear how others feel.
Sue, my idea was for something much simpler than boxes of cards.  My idea is to sell the cards as they are now with a widget on the organization site.  This requires very little effort on GCU's part.  For example, with a school I see a child having a one page flyer to take home to pass out to family and friends which tells them to go to the school website where a GCU widget would be that would direct customers to GCU or possibly another version of GCU which has only family friendly cards on it. I don't know exactly how all this would work, but I think the simpler it is for GCU to implement the better.  I guess the details really don't matter all that much right now, it just matters if people would like to participate.  Thanks for both of your input and look forward to hearing from others! Just a quick question, could a school open its own shop for a fundraiser?  Or would its non-profit status be a problem?  Thanks!

Excellent idea, Kathy!  I would certainly support this.

Several months ago I had discussed with Mindy the possibility of setting up something like this through the private store.  I work with a lot of non-profit organizations, and I'd love to design some cards specifically for them to help raise contributions and awareness.  I thought I could put the cards up in the private store, and they could market them from a widget on their site ... that way I could keep better track of the sales as I would be donating my time and commissions to the cause.  I did not know if we might be able to do that from our public stores ... it's a good thought.  I think we can already do something like this from the private store ... I just haven't had the time or chance yet to test it out.  Hopefully, maybe someone has tried it out, or see if GCU has an ideas to better implement this kind of program.  I think it would be great for everyone.   : )

Does anyone know if an elementary school could open and design their own shop? Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks.
