Hi Tom,
this is an interesting suggestion. I am more visual and usually have no text in my cards  and I know that cards with a good text will sell better.

Maybe there is a simple interim solution possible: Create a joint account here with access for texter and visual artist. Of course mutual trust is necessary for that. But at least sales would be transparent for both.

Just a thought...
Martin

I just love it when artists come to GCU and then they pick apart everything about GCU!  I could do a search of your Forum Posts and you have a TON OF IDEAS, which is not always a bad thing.  But you have to remember things are done in a process, not all at once.

Of course you could collaborate with any artist on GCU that you want to, simply by using the "contact" link in their store.  If they answer you, great!  If they don't, well I guess they weren't very interested in your suggestions.  But you could discuss your ideas about card verses and art directly with the artist.

Since I have been here GCU has been very fair to me.  I love it.  They have implemented changes for the better, as they are able to.  There will be change down the road, but those changes are going to be made and implemented as GCU sees fit, and in their good time.  Can I make a suggestion to you?  Just relax, do your cards and give the folks at GCU the same respect, to run their OWN BUSINESS, THEIR OWN WAY, AND IN THEIR OWN GOOD TIME!

And if this offends you, I am truly sorry, but in my humble opinion you need to slow down and concentrate on your own card business and not so much on changes to be made at GCU.  Occasional suggestions and recommendations are fine, but I read a few of your posts that went on and on about changes you felt they could make to GCU.  I have to give you credit for an intelligent mind that is always thinking of new and better ideas, but you must remember change does not happen overnight, in most cases.

Give the guy a break. He wasn't picking things apart. He was just offering a suggestion that could benefit himself and possibly GCU as well.
Of course, that is just my humble opinion.

SmileyAlthough Tom has some Ideas about restructuring GCU, I think Cara has a valid position here Paul..Paul says Tom wasn't picking things apart, when in fact thats exactly what hes doing. Thats O.K...We have a right to exspress our selves here at GCU, but lets not start arguing with each other.I'm sure GCU Admin will take into consideration any of Toms suggestions and do as they Please. I for one don't have a problem with verse writing, and teaming up with someone could be fun for a while but if exsperience shows me anything, artist like creating things on their own. I certainly wouldn't want to do a painting then have some other person come up and ADD something of theirs to my work..Thats not art, thats Commercial art..and I admit, it takes a good Hallmark commercial artist to sell cards like an assembly line..How would I feel if People bought up my cards because Tom's a Great Writer.Sure I'd be making money , but what about my art...I don't really sell much here, but I like GCU and I know one day things will change..Maybe even with Toms Ideas...capt.

Let's all try to remember the forums are here for everyone to use, either to ask questions or make suggestions for improvements.

I'm sure Tom realizes that nothing happens overnight; he was bringing up concerns he has, and suggestions for solutions, and for the most part it's up to GCU admin to respond to those concerns and suggestions.

In the meantime, if you have any ideas on creative collaborations you'd like to make, please do so. The more voices that chime in on an issue, the more GCU sees that it's something artists want, and the greater the chance they'll add it to their wish list.

Tom...I've been trying to find the words to express my feelings about the numerous complaints and suggestions that have been coming one after the other from you, Tom.  I think Cara said it all.  GCU is a wonderful place that takes into consideration their artists and what is best for the artist and the customer.  They are friendly, efficient and always willing to try to make adjustments that benefit everyone.  They have not proven to be one-sided and out just for themselves.  I find many of your complaints/suggestions to be of a selfish, self-serving nature that doesn't take into account the magnitude of work that the GCU staff has put into making this venture work.  And it is working.  I've been here only about 30 days and have sold over twice as many cards.  Of course, as with any business, as it grows, there will need to be changes and improvements... but they come in time... not all at once.  I agree wholeheartedly with Cara, and, like her, I'm sorry if this offends you.  Have a nice day. Smiley

I really did not mean what I said with any malice.  It is my opinion and it refers to most of his posts,  not just this one.  You have a deal to give Tom a break, but let's also give GCU a break too, does that sound fair to you?

This Creative Collaboration topic is exactly what this is for - to explore ideas and suggestions for artists to work together.

I have not seen the original "profit splits" post but would like to.

At GCU we are VERY open to ideas and suggestions.  Working together as a team benefits us all.

All I can say is I am very dissappointed.   I should have followed my gut feeling on this and kept my mouth shut in the very first place.  I am turning my forum notices off until further notice.  I was only coming from a protective place with GCU and a frustrated place within myself.  I percieved him to be constantly critical of GCU and I didn't think that was a good thing, but as I said, I should have kept my mouth shut.
