Hi Myrna, and welcome.
 
Approvals generally take 24-48 hours.  GCU has a small staff and no firm schedule of when they get around to approving new cards.  I've had dozens of cards approved in a few hours while others have taken up to a week.  The staff has many behind the scenes activities that take a great deal of time so we have all learned to be patient and understanding.
 
I'd recommend you spend a good part of a day reading many of the Forum posts to learn tricks of the trade and to find answers to many many questions that have come up over time.

Hi Everyone! I didn't realize that there was such a thing as a Newbies category in the forum...so here I am saying Hi to everyone and I have to say I just love it at GCU...I also want to Thank Norval ( and I think that there is only one Norval, Arbogast Designs~hope I spelled that right! ) Norval left me a testimonial that was fabulous and he took the time to Welcome me and that meant a lot as an artist and a person! I feel like I am now the member of a very special community of Artists
