GCU e-mails
Jan 25th, 2008, 3:51am

It's good to get updates on new topics in the forums, and it helps me as a newbie to find out more about GCU. However, I do find the number of e-mails that come in quite irritating and it is tending to swamp my e-mails. Is it possible to send one e-mail per day with links to the new topics and updates to existing topics? This would be much more useful to me.

WinkThats an interesting request. I do understand what your saying about the "number" of E-mails. that come in, but How can one E-mail describe future Happenings?.. When we get E-mails throughout the day , they are for our benifit as to whats going on, like what our  customers are asking for, Keyword updates, Sales..etc. I suppose GCU could wait until the end of the day to post them all, but then We would be reading all E-mails at the end of the day for some time. Not my idea of fun. Besides if a customer has a request, they may want it Right Now, and waiting for the end of the day may not be acceptable to them and they will go else where. It really is better to get them as they come in. The best thing for you would be to read the subject, if it interest you, open it, if it doesn't Delete it...pace yourself...Once you get the hang of it , it's really helpful...capt.

Hello, I am new (couple months).  Also had my first sale recently.  But I agree there are too many e-mails such as introductions between members or announcing first sales I'm happy to hear about, but there are so many e-mails I don't know which I should really read or skip anymore takes up too much of my personal time.  Now I'm at a point I skip most of the e-mails and will only read the ones I think are important (can't always tell by the subject so I hope I'm not missing any).

I think what Marion is requesting is vaid request.   Important technical questions or customer requests could get lost in the bombardment of e-mails received daily.

I have been wishing the same thing Marion!  My in box is getting too much mail!

Thank you.....How about a blog page instead of constant e-mails from members.  Mindy's e-mails or customer related type e-mails I would appreciate daily however Smiley

Hi Marion!

What I've discovered is available to us for emails, because of so many emails were arriving in my inbox, was when you go to the Forums, click on the link that says "Notification".  Here you can make adjustments on how you receive your emails for the specific areas: General Chatter, GCU News & Announcements, Artist Chatter, GCU Support, etc., etc., etc.,....

Your choices for each of those departments are: you can remove yourself from receiving emails from that subject, or to Receive All New Posts, or to Receive New Topics only.  Those are the choices that GCU offers us artists at this time from what I can see.

It has been my experience that GCU operates on wanting to keep the artists in the loop so those artists that utilize GCU as their bread and butter can keep up on the latest and greatest news that is happening so "they" the artists can create on a moments notice those new cards that are being requested.  That would be my understanding for those artists that are depending a pay check to pay for their work and lifestyle they would like to have making money with their artwork.

Some of us are just getting started with GCU and for instance, in my case, my art is photography and I have my late mother's watercolor artwork that I have decided to make into greeting cards.  I have never really thought of my photos or my mom's paintings as a specific Thank you, or Thinking of you, or Sympathy, or Birthday or Anniversary cards, etc, etc. topics.  But being with GCU since Dec 2, 2007, I have started thinking in the direction of, if I take this photo, it could be used for a bon voyage card, or a sympathy card.  The emails that come in advising what types of cards are being needed by GCU tends to make things, for me, very competitive.  Just because I'm a very competitive individual.  However, it can ware a person down, receiving all these emails about new cards needed, or the chatter that sometimes, I just can't deal with at that time because of what else is going on in my life.  I tend to multitask until I can't take anymore, hence, the reason for my chronic fatigue.

My suggestion to you is to go through the notification board and choose only those topics you want to receive emails on and then only choose the new topic email choice.  That might help with your email overload.

I do have a suggestion for Mindy and Shaun/GCU, that maybe you can give us another choice on the GCU Notification Board.  That would be to give those that want to receive a daily summary of the New Topics Only the option/choice to receive that choice as well as one of the other 3 choices of Notification.  Then have those notifications sent out after midnight of the actual day of those emails, so the artists can read it the next day.

Some artists may not be in the mode of creating cards for the topics that we receive emails about.  They just want to create cards to show their art or photography.  Maybe in time, they might get into the create a card for a specific topic when asked.  But, I do see how it can create much stress.

I know on the many gardening groups I belong to, I only get the daily summaries because of soooo many emails, I just can't deal with all that is being discussed.  I know that is a little different comparison because there is money being made here at GCU and not on a gardening group.  I'm just trying to come up with a solution that would help those that get overwhelmed by the many emails.  This would allow them to get involved at their pace and not on the fast track that some of the great artists here at GCU are trying to make money at their craft.

Those are my thoughts, I hope I have helped in some way.

I'd rather know than not know. Though, I do get lots of E-Mails too. Sometimes 10 to 25 in a day. Some are idal chatter. I like the questions others ask as it can be helpful at times. I also like knowing what people want or ask in a card they are looking for. I might not have much cards in my store, but I will add more cards as I make them in due time. I don't use some of the fancyer updated stuff I see others use to make cards. All I have is Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop 3 as I use AOL. There are so meny different websites and .com, edu, net, etc... out there. I'm a .com person meself.  Wink Smiley

Shaun or Mindy,

Anyway that suggestion can be put on our wish list?

Checking into the Daily Summary.  I know the forum tool we use is not as flexible nor full featured as others.  Will let you know.

In the interim Shari's advice is good, to update your board notifications and choose only those boards/topics you want to follow.
