The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated around the time of the summer solstice. Based on the Chinese calendar, the date of the festival varies from year to year. It is known as Duanwu in Mandarin . Differing stories tell of the origin of the festival. A notable part of the celebration is the eating of zongzi with family and friends. Zongzi is sticky rice with a sweet or savoury filling, wrapped in bamboo leaves. This illustration shows two zongzi on a plate with a pair of chopsticks, and a cup of tea.
