Weekend Critique Clinic
Mar 25th, 2018, 5:44am

Wow, it looks like I need some help.  I submitted my first card and was declined.  I welcome all weather good or bad critiques.  I read the "Nuts and Bolts" on how to receive constructive criticism and advice by going to the weekend critique clinic but I can't seem to find that clinic link on the blog site.  Can anyone direct me to that link?  Thanks! undecided

Hello, Jacqueline,
Welcome to GCU! I am afraid the Weekend Critique Clinic is no longer in effect. I believe it has been quite a few years since that was done. Do you have a link outside of GCU to your card you need advice about? Maybe posting that would help get some pointers from the always generous artists here.
Have a great day!
Betsy

Welcome to GCU, Jacqueline!

It looks like you've applied some - probably Photoshop - filters to a photograph? It's a bit overwhelming in the effect, due to the image having weak contrast and seemingly too much going on with less than desirable lighting in the original photograph. As a professional photographer, I would put this photo in my scrapbook if it had meaningful memories for me, but can not see it appealing to the average customer.

As photographers we often struggle with choosing images for the public marketplace due to our own connection of emotion and memories when we take the shot. I had the same difficulty when I began turning my photos into greeting cards.

Hi, Jacqueline, please don't give up just because you've gotten a rejection. We've all gotten those, but to succeed you have to just move ahead at a faster pace. Try sending in a higher number of images, and you will eventually build up your stock.  I also agree that, while this is a great subject to photograph, you have lost details in the lighter color areas. Editors generally don't like to see washed out areas in photos, unless it really adds to the story the image is trying to tell.  Also, I don't think borders really add much to a good image. I would just bleed your best images, right off the edges. My two cents Cheesy
