Community Limerick Thread 2012
May 6th, 2012, 7:23am

A good card has an appealing front image, but the inside verse many times makes the sale.  One attractive approach is to use a targeted limerick for the inside verse.

A limerick has 5 lines, with lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyming, and also line 3 and 4 rhyming.

Lines 1, 2, and 5 ideally should have 9 syllables, and the 4th and 5th having 6 syllables.  It is possible to have a good sounding limerick that varies from the syllable rules a bit.

I thought it would be fun to post some Community Limericks that any and all artists could use in their cards as a way to potentially increase sales.  If you target one for an occasion it helps a lot.

Here is one I did for a card for my niece today that you are welcome to use:
===========================

My silly niece, and I do relate, (9)
She has a birthday, on this fine date. (9)
Left alone with her cake, (6)
Half a minute she'd take; (6)
Just candles-n-crumbs, left on 'er plate. (9)

You can modify the relation and tweak the words a bit as needed.

Do you have one to donate?  How clever can you get?

TOM

A man named Tom, he sure could write
Funny limericks, to everyone's delight
His sense of humor was so odd
They called him The Funny Comic God
And now he's on stage every night

By the title of this thread, I thought you were going to start a community limerick for fun.  and each person has to add a line.

Like:  There once was a card company named GCU........

Now all that's left to do is establish a date, then request a new category:

Holidays>Greeting Card Artist Appreciation Day!

I think many a GCU Artist would love to receive a card like that  Cheesy

Greetings!

Just checked back to see what you guys were up to over here in the Limerick thread.

Weaving some fun tales for sure, Bravo Tom and Bambi and Bright!

I didn't know the pattern of the Limerick rhyme and meter, so appreciate it very much Tom and loved seeing one created before our eyes.

Have a great week all.
Warm regards,
Sri

Here's an example of one whose syllable count is not perfect but it reads well:

There once was a young artist named Bright, (9)
Who could travel far faster than light; (9)
She set off one day, (5)
In a relative way, (6)
And returned home the previous night. (9)

Everyone should shop and buy
A card from that Tom the artist guy
He's a legend in his own time
He loves the joke and the rhyme
And his cards will be worth more than mine
