Community Art Thread 2012
Apr 8th, 2012, 3:43pm

For the last 2 years we've had a Community Art thread where a number of us posted a graphic for others to use as they wished on their cards; unrestricted rights.  It was fun.  A good number of cards were made using the images, and many were sold.

It is a fun way to try some new things using art that you didn't create yourself.  I tend to donate an old interesting photo, but you can donate whatever you'd like as long as it inspires many card ideas.

The easiest way to post your donation is to upload it as a jpeg to http://tinypic.com/.  It will generate a link for you to cut/paste into this thread.  The upload size limit there is 1600 x1600.  Use a 300 dpi resolution for your donation please.

RULES:
1. You have to donate an unlimited rights graphic to this thread in order to use the ones posted here.
2. Use each donated graphic no more than once;  so my donated photo, for instance, you should only use once, (one card PID).
3. Mention in the Note to Reviewer that part of the card image was from the Community Art Thread 2012 on the GCU forum, where permission was explicitly given by posting. Please mention the person that donated it and the date it was donated.
4. When the card is approved, post a link back in this thread so we can all see what you did with the graphic.

Here is my donation this year:

How creative can you be with this one?  Add a caption?  Add thought bubbles?  Recolor it?

Have fun!

TOM

ps:  Remember, you have to donate an image into this thread in order to use the images donated by others.

What a fun idea! Please note that GCU's marketability standards apply to these submissions. For example, without work done to reduce the noise and increase the contrast, Tom's donation wouldn't be acceptable. Also, any added card front text must be done well and result in a balanced card front design, and the challenge is on the artist to make a strong and clear connection between the card front image and the purpose of the card. The reviewers will enjoy all the clever submissions, I'm sure!

It actually took a lot of work to make that sample look that good!  It's from 1865.  I personally think old photos should be allowed to look like old photos (vintage) rather than require them to match the standards placed on modern photos.  Oh well.  Here's one that should be OK as is:

I'm donating a texture / background or overlay to the GCU Community. For more information on using digital backgrounds please visit The GCU Community Newsletter Article http://gcucommunity.com/2012/04/02/dash-of-inspiration-selecting-digital-backgro unds/

How to use in most editing programs: Place this image in a new layer over your image to be used. Change layer blending options to whatever you like (most prefer overlay). Also does great as a vertical!

Image is 300 dpi.
