One way to quickly check the bleed area is to have 2 browsers open.  Use one to scroll down the list view while clicking the preview on the ones that look marginal.  The preview shows up in the 2nd browser.  Keep the 2nd browser open as you check more cards.

This is fantastic Mindy!  Cool

It's like looking in the mirror after taking the red-eye or pulling an all-nighter and seeing what you *really* look like!  Shocked I just spent the last 3 hours fixing existing cards where the images were too large for the card face.

I was just wondering if there could be an easier way to check the cards, without having to load each one individually? Or could the cards be 'scrolled' or 'skipped' through? For new designs, could the images be checked before they are loaded?

3 hours spent fixing cards. I have less than 100 cards up. Surely I'm not the only one with this concern.  Huh

Once we've checked our existing cards, it won't be more than a minute to check and go fix.  Keep in mind that this will save a bunch of time from the reviewers sending cards back due to this issue and adding to the already blogged card queue.  There is also the assumption that we will soon get tired of fixing our cards and learn from those mistakes bringing it to a quick check vs a fix card after card process.  Grin

Cheryl brings up a great point though about how many who don't pay attention to this forum, and sadly that seems to be a large majority, won't know about this feature.  If GCU could figure out a way, like the Rights to Use Image check box, to not allow the card into the review cycle without getting the artist's attention to use this tool first...that would be a big help I imagine.

Also, in my opinion, changes of this significance should be sent in an email to EVERY artist on the site.  So at least you've made the attempt to communicate the changes to ALL participants.

I'm loving this feature and thanks so much for offering it.  I've been spending a little time looking at cards that troubled me before, never quite figuring out why they got cut off.  Now I'm squirming in my seat wondering how I can fix my favorite ones that I messed up on.  You can be assured I will use this feature from now on, and I won't screw up again.  Sometimes the simplest of things can throw you off.  I promise I'll be a good girl from now on.... Wow!  What a great tool!  Thank you GCU.

One quick question.  As I was reviewing some of my cards noticed the center line.  I'm assuming that is the fold line.  Some of my card edges extend above (or over) that line.  Does that mean the image edge that extends past that center line will show on back of card?  It's about the size of the white gap line that Tom mentioned.  So maybe it's a tad off as he suggests.

There's no easy solution at this time to allow you to view multiple cards in the print / margin preview.

For new designs you should be using our Card Template or something similar when you prepare your images.  This preview is just a final check, not a designing tool.

Hope that helps!

Correct that subtle gray center line is the fold line and the part of the image that bleeds over will print on the back.

Well I found this fabulous new tool today by accident without reading the forum first! I sold a card, and when I went to look at it, as it was one of my first cards, and I don't think I've ever sold one before....I noticed that the "y" on birthday was very slightly over the edge and in danger of being 'clipped'!
I have since corrected it by adding a border, but now I am (like others here) going to have to go through them all, at least the really old ones that I've probably goofed on, and fix them!  Shocked

Love this tool though....thanks GCU!
p.s. *Tom...good idea of yours btw (re. browser)

The problem I have is, once I delete the info on the template ... it's gone!

I discovered that Gimp has nifty lines that pull over to mark 1/4 or 1/2 inch placement. Smiley

Anybody else noticed, it seems the tool cuts off more space at the bottom of the horizontal card and trims more from the right edge on the lateral card? Does that mean I need to adjusts my graphics accordingly? A little up /or a little to the left?

Websprinter,

What I do is always set those "nifty" little lines you speak of to 1/2" and keep any important part of the design and all text within that 1/2" margin (with the background going to the edge of the card).   Text that goes to the 1/4" mark is still too close to the edge of the card to look well when printed.

I use photoshop, and always start out with a 5"x7" file (set at 1500 pixels x 2100 pixels and 300 pixels/inch) and before working on any design set those "nifty" lines to 1/2" and lock them.  Then I have made my own template before I even start designing.

Thinking smaller really helps when I'm working on this.

As I use the new very useful preview tool to check some of my older designs, the only place for adjustment seems to be when I used an intricate border.  Went back and adjusted some of those so the part of the border I wanted to show was more toward the center and made sure the borders were at least 1/2" or larger in width.

In regard to the white edge you mentioned, Tom showed a enlarged image of that edge (with his nifty arrows) earlier in this thread on pg. 2 where you can note Mindy's response.

Happy designing!
Kati
