Facebook Round Robin Invite :)

Hi, guys! We had great success on LinkedIn with our group of artists on there. I would like to extend the same opportunity to our great artists here on GCU! Here is the place to post your facebook page.

Post your link and we can all visit each others pages, 'like' them and get better connected in the open marketplace and with eachother.

I look forward to seeing your great pages and designs!

Okay, for the facebook pages and their long addresses this is what the round robin is for:

Until you have 25 people 'like' you new page, you can't get a short URL. Once you have 25 'likes' you can go into your 'edit page' page under your profile pic on your page. You can then set up your name--but do note that you can't change it==once set, it's there forever.

Hi all - when copying and pasting your FB url, please go to your business page, hit refresh and then c&p the url.
It is also super helpful if you go get a personalized FB url. That way you can post nice and neat: www.facebook.com/TheCutestCardsUEverSawExample, w/o all the extra #s/letters.

You can get a personalized url when you have more than 25 "likers."
Be sure to spell your name right - you can't change it.

It is a GORGEOUS page! I'm with Kerra, so I went and looked I did find the app for the Welcome Page but when I started creating it, it takes me to a page where you have to pay a monthly fee? Is that correct, or am I getting lost in advertising Grin

I'm on vacation and trying not to be on computer long. But I plan to like all of you over the next day or so. Or by end of January

The person who did my WELCOME page for my business FB is wonderful and her prices are VERY reasonable.

Please contact her if you need a Welcome page created. Sarah - Makery sarah@makeryblog.com she is part of the Etsy team and blogs for them.

She is quick and very creative. I did supply her some jpegs from my background website and wrote my page. She laid it all out and went live with it. So easy!

Doreen, how do you get both a business and personal FB? Do you have to have 2 email addresses? I know one place that I write for and one place that I create products for, automatically posts my work to my personal FB account and I wouldn't want them to get crossed up and start posting to the wrong one. So, how exactly would I go about all this without messing everything up? I would truly appreciate any help you could give me.

You are on your way to a short URL! I see you are up to 11 'likes' now--yeah! When you get 25 you can shorten your URL--but do note that you cannot change it. So pick a good one!

It is a GORGEOUS page! I'm with Kerra, so I went and looked I did find the app for the Welcome Page but when I started creating it, it takes me to a page where you have to pay a monthly fee? Is that correct, or am I getting lost in advertising Grin

Fan pages are great for your artwork--and personal pages are great for close friends and family. If you'd like to advertise your work, your best bet is to set up your own fan page, http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/create.php

You can set up your blog to post to your fan page for art related items and such so not to worry about that--as well as adding a merch store or GCU app as well. I hope this helps--please post your new fan page once you get it set up.

Well, I'm certainly not an expert so I'll tell you what happened with me. If I post from another site, such as a GCU email of a sale and hit the FB button, it will post to my personal page not Fan page. So, I'm guessing the answer to your question is not only a separate email, but a separate FB account. My personal page was originally created as a Biz Page, only I didn't know what I was doing Grin

Doreen, that's exactly what I did. I created it as a personal account because I use my real name on everything I create so that people can find me and everything I create really easy. I was new to FB and didn't know anything about it. I actually got my kids into it. My mother and sister talked me into using FB so they could talk to me and it came to me that it would be a great place to advertise my work as well. Back then, I didn't know anything about fan pages, but I did wonder why some FB users had like buttons and others had add as a friend buttons. I just now figured that one out. If adding a fan page to my personal account is going to cause my add a friend button to turn into a like button instead, I'm not sure I want to do that. The only thing that I have that is not under my real name is my kennel's website, my family's woodworking website, and my photography website. They all have their own email addresses and I could easily set up a business account for them on FB. My GCU store uses my last name and my zazzle account uses my nickname (Becky). These are the only two things that I don't have my true full name on. So, I don't know how a fan page can help someone like me who has all my work under my real name. What do you think? When you have a like button doesn't that mean that they can link to your page without your permission where as the add a friend button asks your permission? Other than that, what's the difference? Ugh....I've had to overhaul my facebook personal account several times do to the same issue. It was so different when I first joined too--so, separating my work from family interactions was a chore. Because I found it was almost impossible to separate them and risk loosing the 'art connections' I had made years ago on my personal account, I just made a 'group page' for our family and close friends and only post personal things in there, (photos, too), to avoid risking EVERYONE seeing me in pajamas on Christmas morning.

This is an awesome idea!!! (sorry, I am a bit slow on this thread, I haven't been on the forum for a while haha).

I haven't set my facebook page up yet however I began visiting some of the pages and they are fantastic. I "liked" a few of the pages i just visited (Casie and Jenny in particular - I love your images!!).

I've said it in a post before but i'll say it again, my favourite thing about GCU is seeing the different styles and amazing imaginations the members have. So many talented artists, it's incredible.

Well done on the facebook pages everyone, you have inspired me to get my butt in to gear and get mine up and running haha.

... and just a reminder- if you like a page using your own fan page the count won't go up for the page you're visiting, so be sure to "like" using your personal FB page to make it count. You can always link to your fan page after your comment.

Please forgive to the few I have done this to. Once you "like" using your FP you can't go in and "like" with your personal page. You have to "unlike" and go back to like again with the personal page. I guess that's FB for you!

Please forgive to the few I have done this to. Once you "like" using your FP you can't go in and "like" with your personal page. You have to "unlike" and go back to like again with the personal page. I guess that's FB for you!

Actually you can 'like' with both, you just have to go to your Personal page and change how you are using Facebook over on the upper right side panel and choose the other. So I liked Laura's page as the St. George Salon of Art and then changed my use to Doreen Erhardt and went and liked her page as Doreen too

Laura is correct about the Fan Page to Fan Page likes not effecting the count.

Hi Doreen! Last month at some point I tried what you suggested, and FB had a pop up window that stated "You already like this page" when I had switched from my personal page (to make it count) to liking the page under my FP. I think that FB has some inconsistencies that plagues the site. And I fear it's becoming too "Twitterized" now with the changes. I welcome change, but I think they're heading in the wrong direction. I don't really want to see a feed of who's friending who, or what someone's response is to someone else's post. I think I'm in info overload as I'm sure a lot of people are. LOL! The highlight is truly visiting these wonderful fan pages.

I agree, I hardly ever even look at my personal page anymore. Hard enough keeping up with my Fan Page and Twitter Grin

Okay, for the facebook pages and their long addresses this is what the round robin is for:

Until you have 25 people 'like' you new page, you can't get a short URL. Once you have 25 'likes' you can go into your 'edit page' page under your profile pic on your page. You can then set up your name--but do note that you can't change it==once set, it's there forever.
