Card Images so Small
Jan 2nd, 2011, 7:39pm

I like to use the "sell this card" feature and add cards available here at GCU in my blog.  But, the images are so small.  When I try to change their size on the blog (Blogger) they are so blurry and I don't want people reading the blog to think that's what they really look like.  Is there any way I can make the preview of the card just a little bigger without making them blurry?

Hi Rita.. Smiley

That is a good "Doreen" question.  Her blog is very nice and shows many GCU card images.  Are the ones your posting the same size as hers or smaller?

This may help, i don't know. If I have a photo which is basically a thumbnail, and if I try to resize it, it loses focus, I then print the small version and scan it at a high resolution. Now I can resize it down to any size I want and it will retain all the elements of the original thumbnail. I hope this makes sense.   Shocked

Hi Rita,
I hear your frustration, I use the small image from gcu but I post my web quality card on my blog, then post the gcu icon and say "to purchase this card, click the small image"  This takes them to the card where they can purchase it.  It also lives me a commissioned link if the card sells.

I guess I just had to figure out a way to help it along.
my blog

hope this helps

Thanks all...Doreen did tell me her secret for those larger images..they are Zazzle images.  I do use my own image files when I'm showing one of my own cards, but it would sure be nice to have a bigger option when I'm highlighting a card by another artist.  I tend to write my blogs only a few days before publishing and often I like to show more than a few at once, so contacting each artist for a larger format isn't a viable option.  Guess I'll just keep using the small thumbnails and hope for the best.

I sometimes wonder whether having such small images might make the reader (or viewer) curious to see the detail when they click on the image - and all those clicks count when it comes to getting your designs to come out at the 'top of the pile' in an on-site search.  Smiley

Here's the trick I plan on using (when the day comes that I have more time when doing my blog posts - LOL!)

How does this size work for you?
http://dogbreedz.net/WebGraphics/Friendshipsample.jpg

How I did it:
Choose the card
click to see the larger preview
Do a screen capture (alt prtsc for PCs)
paste into a new photo file, depending on your photo software (I use photoshop)
crop to the card design
paint over any extra characters (for me there was some print still showing that I just painted white over)
this is important to me:  ADJUST IMAGE TO 72 DPI (be sure to keep the pixel size the same)!!!  This makes it harder for anyone to steal the image for other uses.
Save and post to your blog ...
