In answer to Tom's question 'Why do we do this'?
Because when I am gone I want my children to remember me for something other than perpetual cooking and cleaning!

LOL! Good answer, Pamela!
Actually, they'll remember how much you loved them!
Why? Because I love it!

I love reading all of the posts!
I just sold my 20th card today after many months of making them, going through the review process, and waiting and waiting for sales. I couldn't stop if someone paid me.

Laurie,
Me too! I'm addicted! I especially love the 'big' sales! Orrrrrrr selling the ones that you personally love. Wish we could meet the people who buy our cards!!! Something odd, though, is that I've sold several Christmas cards but just 1 at a time! Perhaps they're just seeing how the quality is before buying bulk (fingers crossed). You are new so your bulk sales will be soon. Christmas is a very good time for us.
Your squirrel cards are very cute. How do you do it? By the time I see one outside, grab the camera and open the door the little bugger is gone!

Thanks for looking at my cards, Candy. I have a large feeding area right outside my kitchen window, and the squirrels are very familiar with us, and have been around for many years. They bring their children, and they bring their children, etc. I don't know what I would do without being able to see them and their fun antics. I have shops on Zazzle and CafePress, and I LOVE making the cards for GCU.
I would love to see a bulk sale. I'm patient, though, and still happy with the one at a time cards!

Yes Eve - one little trick I do is to take a great unique and attractive image like your bird one and brainstorm all the things related to it, aiming for like 20 words. They can be wide ranging:
feather
trees
nature
solitude
peace
flight
loneliness
happiness
motherhood
fatherhood
childhood
love
companionship
sky
worms
nest
eggs
singing
morning
evening
birds of a feather/flock
neighborhood
Then tell yourself to make 5 each of announcement cards, birthday cards, occasion cards, ...
I do this while looking down the list above at the same time looking at the list of subcategories, such as under announcements. Write down the words and categories that come to mind and that match up. It's actually very fun. Don't stop till you have at least 5 combinations.
For instance; announcements:
Nest, egg, motherhood - "Springtime, therefore I must be pregnant again!"
Nest, egg, motherhood, worms - New baby has arrived (need worms)
Freedom - Divorce is Final!
Companionship and flying - "We flew off together" (Elopement announcement)
Nest - Come see our new nest! (moving announcement)
Loneliness - I'm coming home to the nest (Coming home announcement)
Flying - "about to fly off into the world" (Graduation announcement)
You'll likely find that in the process even more words emerge to add to the list you started above.
I then grab the best combinations and work on the final image-words and inside-verses. Of the ones above I might just focus on one really good idea, like the pregnancy one.
One really good image can spawn dozens of great selling cards. Your bird one is one that I believe resonates with so many emotions and thoughts I'm actually jealous! But have fun with it and I'd love to see some of the ones you come up with that you are most thrilled with (assuming you give it a try).
TOM
ps: A quick follow-up that you might want to use. Not sure where exactly this can be used but the thought is "He'd better be home soon or he'll have to sing for his supper."
Thank you Tom, I have copied and pasted this into a 'word' document so I wont lose it. It gives some great ideas.

Laurie,
I have a couple of BOLD squirrels that I would like to cut and paste and send to you in this forum...one, or both of them, who knows, could be a HERD of them, recently worked their way to the attic where I was trying to dry and save sunflower heads...what a ball they had with those! Even deposited some open sunflower shells for me on the kitchen counter. Such a special treat...NOT!
I do agree, they can be amusing...and so determined! The chipmonks here are especially cleaver.

Boy, I sure understand the squirrels in the attic, Linda. Before I "liked" the squirrels, we had a huge group of them in our attic and they were extremely noisy and sounded like they were moving furniture. I think my husband found where they got in and put a covering over it where they could go out, but not get back in.
I put up bird feeders a few years ago and had a major problem with the squirrels, so, I just put out more food and decided to "join" them. Right now we have no problems with them eating all of the food, everyone gets their share, and because I put so much out, the squirrels don't feel they have to gobble it up at one sitting.
Hope you can get yours out of your attic, Linda.
