A Photoshop Question
Apr 23
rd
, 2009, 1:55pm
I have the new photoshop attached with dreamweaver CS4
Soooooooooooooooooooo
My question is that I really dont know much about photoshop and would love to learn more.
I can shrink pics and add some words now and I would really like to learn more to play with some of the cards I have
Anyone know of any good dvds you can buy?
Or a site with any good tips?
Id love to do things like twist the words around on my cards instead of them being straight and perfect
etc
Anyhoo
Thought id check in and ask
xoxo

I have learned everything online or through Total Training tapes. But my favorites are Photoshopusers.com and Lyndia.com With Lyndia.com, it is only $25 a month and they train in short lessons, making it easier to follow.
Wish you much success.

2 free tip sites I found helpful (I have no affiliation):
http://kenrockwell.com/tech/ps.htm#underexposed
http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/Adobe_Photoshop_Resources.htm
Also consider: Scott Kelby's book, PhotoshopCS4 for digital photographers

Best training I know is just getting in there and "messin'" with it. Then when you have a question, you know what to ask!

Try
www.youtube.com
and put in these keywords in the search - "photoshop tutorial" and look for the ones you'd like to learn.
I've learned few things that way.
Good luck!

Firstly
your the boss, and don't let photoshop think otherwise, or it will try to dominate you instead of you it... I know it sounds odd, force it to your will and it behaves.
My favorite magazine here in the uk and is also online Photoshop Createive, it not only teaches you how to force it into shape, but how to think outside your comfort zone, you tube I have found with some of the tuts that its not all there and they skip a step leaving you with question marks, but there are some wonderful tut sites out there, including deviantart.com.
I adore this magazine because it speaks my dopey language and does not try to blind me with things and has free disks (its' not a cheep mag though) lovely stuff, competitons and the people who use the forums jump up and down to solve questions.
But like everyone says there are some wonderful online totally free tutorials for it, and some very interesting ideas. Hope you can get the mag in the USA or an equivelent, its a breath of fresh air I have found, but I could be biased on all of it
I am a total Photoshop geek and proud, wow I just made my next card haha..
Let us know how you get on, I adore hearing anything photoshop related.
Would love to know how Dreamweaver CS4 is as well I have CS3 and did
www.avalonbears.com
using dreamweaver I am a fan of that as well and have been for many years, and I am pondering on CS4 if it can make me better at it.
Hugs

All of the advice here is great advice. The site sources are excellent. I have used many of them. You tube is also a very good source and I prefer the video tutorials. I am currently in my first year studying design with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I have had a little bit of experience with CS4. I still have a lot to learn. I thought I would jump in and help you out here.
If you want to transform text and work with text styles you can do these two things.
Go up to the right corner and click the drop down where it says essentials and choose typography. This will let you change size and color of your text and apply text styles.
2nd, If you want to bend, warp your text you can go to edit at the top left of CS4. In the dropdwn select transform and then warp. Next to warp in the toolbar there is a dropdown list of transforms such as wave, arch upper, arch lower ect.
Hope this helps.

Ok, here is another question.....
I was wondering with regards to cards and adding words on with photoshop.
Say for instance I add on the word "happy"
Now I want to another word in a different section of the card.
I am not sure how to do that
It seems that I have to save that one word before I can add another word, I have a feeling there must be an easier way?
Hope this makes sense
Thanks Em

Just make a new layer, add the word to that, and you can move it anywhere you want to.

Emelisa, Hi ....
The first and most important tip for using Photoshop is to make sure your layer window is open F7 or window check layers. When you open a picture left click on the layer duplicate it and lock the original.
That way you never wreck your original..!!! hope you followed that and have Fun.
