April is National Multiple Birth Awareness Month.

Each year in the United States, more than 132,000 sets of twins are born,  either fraternal or identical. In fact, the twin rate has risen 75%  in the last twenty years, which has been attributed to more frequent  use of fertility drugs and IVF treatment. The mother’s age may also be a factor – women older than 30 years are more likely to release multiple eggs in a cycle. Whatever the cause, multiple births aren’t as uncommon as they used to be.
